Maria Salamanca is a venture capitalist at Unshackled Ventures, activist leader and advisor at Swing Left, and founder at Making a Techie newsletter. She was named 2018 Forbe’s 30 Under 30 for Venture Capital. Her fund, Unshackled Ventures, fills a unique space in the entrepreneurial ecosystem, funding teams with immigrant founders. Previous to joining Unshackled, Maria worked at FWD.us an immigration lobbying group founded by Mark Zuckerberg and other tech leaders. She immigrated from Colombia at age 7 and became a citizen at age 18. It is her own immigration story of fleeing Colombia and achieving access to the American Dream that motivates her to uplift others by eliminating barriers in entrepreneurship, government, and education. She is a mentor at Year Up, Stanford Latino Entrepreneurship Initiative, BUILDUPFund, and Technovation.
